PURPOSE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Learners who have achieved this unit standard are capable of applying the correct procedures when attending to and managing a road accident scene.<\/p>\n

Safeguard a scene of a road accident.<\/p>\n

Criterion 1<\/strong><\/p>\n

Using of the correct equipment and hand signals to direct traffic.<\/p>\n

Criterion 2<\/strong><\/p>\n

Identification of any threats\/hazards\/dangers and following the correct emergency procedures.<\/p>\n

Criterion 3<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cordoning off of immediate vicinity to prevent crime, control crowds and protect evidence.<\/p>\n

Criterion 4<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following the procedures and protocols of accident Incident Management.<\/p>\n

Support accident scene victims.<\/p>\n

Understanding and empathy of victims is demonstrated according to organisational procedures.<\/p>\n

Locating and identifying injured and\/or deceased victims at a road accident scene and at a hospital.<\/p>\n

Rendering of basic first-aid support to injured victims at a road accident scene.<\/p>\n

Identification and arrangement of preferred ambulance services by victims.<\/p>\n

Identification and arrangement of preferred tow-service provider by victims (except if a vehicle is an exhibit).<\/p>\n

Locating, identifying and safekeeping of victim’s property according to organisational procedures.<\/p>\n

Informing next-of-kin of the victim’s death or serious injury.<\/p>\n
