Attend to and manage a collision scene
PURPOSE
Learners who have achieved this unit standard are capable of applying the correct procedures when attending to and managing a road accident scene.
Specific Outcomes and Criteria:
Specific Outcome 1
Safeguard a scene of a road accident.
Criterion 1
Using of the correct equipment and hand signals to direct traffic.
Criterion 2
Identification of any threats/hazards/dangers and following the correct emergency procedures.
Criterion 3
Cordoning off of immediate vicinity to prevent crime, control crowds and protect evidence.
Criterion 4
Following the procedures and protocols of accident Incident Management.
Specific Outcome 2
Support accident scene victims.
Criterion 1
Understanding and empathy of victims is demonstrated according to organisational procedures.
Criterion 2
Locating and identifying injured and/or deceased victims at a road accident scene and at a hospital.
Criterion 3
Rendering of basic first-aid support to injured victims at a road accident scene.
Criterion 4
Identification and arrangement of preferred ambulance services by victims.
Criterion 5
Identification and arrangement of preferred tow-service provider by victims (except if a vehicle is an exhibit).

Locating, identifying and safekeeping of victim’s property according to organisational procedures.

Informing next-of-kin of the victim’s death or serious injury.
